A review of “Grand Mothers” in 100 words by Catherine Stover
When the great poet Nikki Giovanni died earlier this week, many tributes described how this literary legend never took her foot off the gas: she wrote more than 30 books, with one more coming out next year. I love her most for her humanity. She’s the only poet I know of who has a book about grandmothers. She lived with her grandparents when she was fifteen, and she wants to honor unsung heroes. Her collection includes pieces by famous writers and by women in a retirement center. We have much in common, and we will miss her warm light among us.
